Dermatix Ultra is a scar gel targeted at keloid scars. This product comes in two sizes, a 7 gram and 15 gram tube. The formula contains CPX (cyclopentasiloxane) which it claims will flatten and soften scars as well as Vitamin C in order to lighten scar tissue. The manufacturer claims this product also relieves the itching and redness associated with scars. This gel is also suitable for sensitive skin. But, is this formula powerful enough to match these claims? While this product does have some strong points, we did notice the omission of some important ingredients. In addition, it was not apparent from their site that they offer a money back guarantee if the product does not work for you, which speaks volumes about the confidence that they have in their product. When a product claims to be made of the right ingredients, by all means it should be effective. Let us stress, should be. One issue that raises a slight red flag here is that it lacks 3 types of medical-grade silicone. This is clinically researched to provide the optimal benefits for scars including retain the maximum amount of moisture to keep the skin healthy and hydrated.
Some other elements of this product also were not included. While we were pleased to see Vitamin C to help lighten scars, there were no other natural ingredients included in this list. We would have liked to see ingredients which are known to reduce inflammation, such as Aloe Vera, which is found in many scar creams. Other ingredients, such as Jojoba Oil to expedite wound healing and Onion Extract which has antibacterial properties. We saw none of these ingredients which was a real shame.
A good measure of efficacy is to see what customers of this product have to say. Unfortunately, we saw only 2 reviews on the Dermatix Ultra website. We did see more reviews on Amazon, but, not surprisingly, many reviews stated that this gel did not work for them. We also read reviews that stated the product they received was not the one that they ordered. This is not a great vote of confidence for this manufacturer.
Dermatix Ultra comes with a warning for customers not to use the product on open wounds, or too close to the eyes. The gel is also sticky and may stain clothing if it has not fully dried. The manufacturer also strongly advises customers to consult a doctor and discontinue use of the product immediately if experiencing irritation of the skin.
Dermatix Ultra is formulated with the right idea in mind. We like that they wanted to target the 2-pronged approach of both flattening and lightening scars. They do this by including a silicone based product as well as Vitamin C. However, these 2 ingredients are not nearly enough. We would have liked to see 3 different types of medical-grade silicone and many types of essential oils and natural ingredients for an optimal scar repair formula.
Additionally, many customer reviews were not pleased with the results from this product. Perhaps we shouldn’t have been surprised that this product is not third-party tested. Furthermore, as most manufacturers provide a money back guarantee for consumers who are not happy with the results they experience, this manufacturer is falling short of industry standards by not offering a money back guarantee. This is a big negative for them. Without some changes, we had no choice other than to place this product in this spot.
